This website is about the hypothesis of the association of "Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency" (CCSVI) and multiple sclerosis (MS). The pattern of CCSVI was described by Prof. Zamboni. We list research such as scientific publications or conference presentations and media coverage.

Direct-MS hosts a Free CCSVI Information Session in Calgary - update 1

Recent research has suggested that many people with MS have blockages in the veins that drain the brain (CCSVI) and that this problem is an important part of the MS disease process.

Dr. Bianca Weinstock-Guttman and Dr. Robert Zivadinov of the University of Buffalo are currently leading a major clinical trial to investigate CCSVI. They will present an overview of CCSVI and their preliminary results.

Friday, April 30th, Coast Plaza Hotel, Calgary, Canada

Update 01.07.2010:

Transparency in Medicine

A list of good sites or organizations which want more transparency in medicine and medical research. These websites contain many interesting informations and links.

SIR Presentation of Prof. Dake available

The presentation of Prof. Dake, Stanford University is available as webcast. The presentation starts at 45' 30'', slide 356 and ends 1h04', slide 436.

Update 15.03.2010, Youtube snapshots are available:

New publications and an interventional radiology conference with Prof. Dake

A new scientific publication has appeared:
  • Simka M et al.: Reinterpreting the magnetic resonance signs of hemodynamic impairment in the brains of multiple sclerosis patients from the perspective of a recent discovery of outflow block in the extracranial veins. [simka10a]
Publications in work:
  • Zamboni et al.: Endovascular Treatment for Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency in Multiple Sclerosis: A Longitudinal, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Blinded Pilot Study. [zamboni10a]
  • Lee BB et al.: Embryological Background of Truncular Venous Malformation in the Extracranial Venous Pathways as the Cause of Chronic Cerebro-Spinal Venous Insufficiency. [prep_lee10a]
Prof. Dake gives a presentation at the annual meeting of interventional radiologists about stenting jugular veins for MS. The presentations can probably be watched on a webcast.
